Marley and Me

This week I am reading Marley and Me by John Grogan. This book is about a newlywed couple, Jenny and John, who are happy, young, and living in sunny Florida. Everything was going well until Jenny killed a houseplant. How could she take care of kids one day when she couldn't even take care of a tiny plant? She needed practice, and the closest think to a kid was a dog. So Jenny searched the classifieds and came across an ad for a yellow lab puppy. John and Jenny adopted a new dog, Marley, who just so happened to be the worst dog in the world.
I'm over half way done with the book, and I really like it so far. It takes you from Marley being kicked out of obedience class to him tearing apart the garage, finding out he has a serious phobia of storms. As Marley grows from a puppy to a huge, feared beast, John and Jenny's family grows too. Life is much harder than when they were just newlyweds. Jenny is exhausted with a toddler and a baby and John is tired from trying to keep Marley from being kicked out.
I recommend this book for any pet lovers or anyone who just wants to be cheered up because Marley will sure do the job. Having a dog reminds you what's important in life. It reminds you to laugh when work has transformed you into a stressed mess. It reminds you that you can't take things too seriously all the time. This book shows that your worst day can be turned around by just walking through the front door and being welcomed by your biggest fan, jumping on you and slobbering all over your face. It teaches that if you can take a incorrigible dog like Marley and train him, then you can basically accomplish anything. And most importantly, Marley and Me proves that the the most stubborn, messy, and worst things in life can turn out to be the best.
